Partnering with Wrestling to Beat the Streets DC – Information

Wrestling to Beat the Streets DC is an independent nonprofit founded in Washington, DC with a mission to serve students in underserved communities by introducing and teaching the values and benefits of wrestling.  As part of our mission, we will provide coaches, equipment, a wrestling mat, and financial and organizational support as needed.

In return for WBTS DC’s contribution of support, we ask our partners support our efforts and encourage students to responsibly participate in the WBTS DC program.  We view our relationship with local schools as partnerships focused on developing competitive wrestling programs in the District of Columbia.

WBTS DC is proud to partner with Cesar Chavez Public Charter Schools led by Coach Bob McCarty, for its inaugural program in the District!

The original Chávez High School opened its doors in September 1998. Currently Chavez has four campuses and serves over 1,400 scholars in grades six through twelve. Mrs. Irasema Salcido is the founder and the original principal of what is now the Capitol Hill campus.

Cesar Chavez Public Charter School Mission: The César Chávez Public Charter Schools for Public Policy provides a high quality public school option for young people residing in the District of Columbia’s most impoverished and underserved communities. The Chávez schools prepare D.C. scholars to succeed in competitive colleges so that they can use their lives to make a positive difference in the world.

A School Like No Other. Washington Latin Public Charter School provides a challenging, classical education accessible to students throughout the District of Columbia.

Washington Latin Public Charter School | Washington, DC   Started small, with 179 students in grades 5-7, occupying a church near the Washington National Cathedral. In each of the next five years, we added a grade until reaching our full complement of grades 5-12 in 2011-12. Our first class graduated in 2012, and two others have followed for a total of 175 Washington Latin graduates.

Washington Latin Public Charter School Mission: Washington Latin was founded in 2006 with the single goal of providing a rigorous, classical education to public school middle and high school students from across the District of Columbia. This idea was ambitious at the time and remains so today. This sets us apart from most classical schools, and from most urban charter schools. In an age of testing-driven curricula and technology-aided pedagogy, our school focuses on the core elements of a classical education that develop thoughtful leaders, and our diverse student body represents our city.

We are planning more future partnerships!
