Raised in Michigan, Rickey Torrence II didn’t begin wrestling until the 9th grade. After being elected captain at the end of his Sophomore year he went on to place 6th in Michigan at 112lbs during his Junior year, losing by 1 point in the finals.  As a senior Rickey won every tournament and went 45-0, taking first place at 119lbs.  While finishing his Physics degree at Hampton University he volunteered at Hampton High School before moving to Baltimore as the Head Coach of Newtown High School.  The Newtown Titans sent guys to the MD Finals on several occasions during his time there.  Rickey moved to DC to teach at Washington Latin Public Charter School where he and his brother, Reginald (Reggie) Torrence, started the school’s first wrestling program with the help of BTS.
